Indian Maritime University is located in Chennai and was establieshed in November 14, 2008 by the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India. IMU was created to support education, training and research in the maritime field. It focuses on important areas like ocean studies, maritime history, maritime law and security. The university also covers topics such as search and rescue, transporting dangerous goods, environmental studies and more. IMU aims to be excellent in all these areas. The oldest IMU campus is in Navi Mumbai, which was first established in 1927.

Admission Procedure
The admission process typically involves filling out an application form, appearing for an entrance exam, and participating in counselling sessions based on exam scores. - Admission to B.Tech and M.Tech programme will be conducted through IMU-CET.
- There is no entrance examination for BSc. ship Building & Repair programme. Admission is based on class 12th Marks.
- Candidates who are applying on the basis of CAT/MAT/CMAT scores for MBA Programme and those who are applying on basis of GATE/CUET(PG)/PGCET for M.Tech. Programmes need to register for Counselling.
- Candidates who are applying on basis of CUET scores for UG (Except BBA) Programmes need to register for spot counselling. Information regarding the same will be announced after release of third list.
